Artist Statement
In my art, I always find myself exploring the extremes. There is such complexity within the highs and lows of emotion, the contrasts of light and dark, and the relationship between suffering and joy. My personal experience heavily inspires my creative process. The themes of childhood, play, identity, and presence feature heavily in my work. My art, across all mediums, has always had many layers, physically and conceptually. I have worked in pen, marker, acrylic paints, oil paints, charcoal, ink - you name it - and there is always a distinct mark-making quality, a repetitive layering of line and shape that helps feed the inner complexity of the work. I find myself drawn to the human face and body, but I also focus on how conceptual extremes, or the complexities that exist within them, dwell within space. I hope my work conveys a sense of presence and tangibility - whether physical or emotional.
